Jedediah Hotchkiss was a prominent citizen of Augusta County, known as the founder and head-master of the Mossy Creek Academy, as well as for his service during the Civil War as Stonewall Jackson's mapmaker. He lived in Augusta with his wife, Sara Ann Comfort, and their two daughters Nellie and Anne. The items assembled here are from the Hotchkiss Papers at the University of Virginia's Special Collections, and represent the exent of material in that collection from the Civil War years.
